Phil Spector's Wall of Hair
I was having breakfast this morning when my boys started talking about their experiences with ICT in education. My youngest boy has a teacher who still does not know how to set up her laptop to the RGB projector. But it was my eldest boy’s anecdote that was humorous.
He told us how one day, during a Business Communications class, his lecturer had wanted to show the class a YouTube video. The lecturer had created a link in Excel to the video which was on YouTube. As she clicked on the link, nothing seemed to happen and she kept clicking on the link that she had created. She didn’t realise that there was a bit of a lag.
All these while, the students in the lecture hall, just watched as more tabs appeared on the browser projected in front of them. They were all amazed that the lecturer didn’t seem to notice the additional tabs appearing as she clicked and clicked. I asked my son why they didn’t alert her and his reply was that they found it entertaining.
Soon the videos began to download and play almost simultaneously and the whole lecture hall was treated to a chorus from the audio of all the videos on each of the tab that was opening. The lecturer then looked surprised and asked the students why there was an echo effect! She had discovered Phil Spector’s Wall of Sound!
